The decision to baptize a child into the church signifies a promise to guide that child into a knowing relationship with God and the Catholic faith. This ministry functions to help parents better understand the Sacrament of Baptism and today's Catholic Church.
Baptismal Preparation Class is held at 7:30pm in the Gibson Center on the first Monday of the month, unless it falls on a holiday. One of our parish priests presents information about the many aspects of baptism and its importance as a sacrament of initiation for the parents, the child, and our parish community. Parents better understand the significance of this sacrament as well as what choices are available for the celebration of Baptism at our parish. There is a discussion of church life for the young child after baptism, and how parents and the parish community help a child grow in faith as a Catholic Christian in these busy, commercially driven times.
This ministry provides a great opportunity for parishioners to meet with other parents with young children as well as gather and share information of mutual interest. Parents are encouraged to attend the meetings while awaiting a child through birth or adoption. This offers time to focus on the meetings without the need to secure child care for the new baby.
The Baptismal Preparation Team, under the leadership of Robin and Daniel Laval , welcomes volunteers to act as either a host for the meetings, or as a discussion leader. The time commitment is very small and it's a wonderful opportunity to meet parish families while performing a greatly appreciated service for our parish.
